Congress Editorial Blog

Congress needs to do a better job with solving pressuring issues instead of just putting them off for another time. One problem that really sticks out when it comes to this is immigration reform. While Trump continues to rant on and on about building a wall and making America great again, he is not acting upon his words as quickly as he should. Also, I do not believe that he is approaching this issue in the correct way either. Congress and Trump need to decide how they are going to deport all of these undocumented immigrants around the world. Even though I personally do not agree with the deportation of thousands living in the United States, even if they are not legal, because I believe they are still an important part of society. Anyways, if that must be an important issue that President Trump wants to act upon, he should be working on that right away. Instead of acting on things right away like a good educated leader would, he continues to put things off for later times and making things worse. He should be helping the cause to get illegal immigrants to at the very least come in to the United States legally, but instead he is instigating other powerful leaders and playing rounds of golf. If Donald Trump really wanted to “Make America Great Again” why does he continue to push his plans backwards and get nothing accomplished? Why does he continue to make things worse with other countries and other people around the world instead of attempting to solve some issues that are going through the United States? This is the major problem right now in Congress. Congress and Mr. Trump say that they are going to solve issues like deporting illegal immigrants while that is not that much of an issue. That was never spoken about more before until Donald Trump came into the picture. However, they let President Trump basically talk trash to other countries and leaders like Kim Jong Un and creating more problems then America can deal with right now during these hard times. It would not be hard to pass laws about illegal immigration. Trump running as a republican and Congress having the majority of Republicans have the votes to pass pretty much anything they wanted too. They have absolutely no excuse to not get anything that they said they were going to accomplish done.

Another issue that Congress keeps putting off that needs to be resolved is reforming different trade agreements. Trump threatens to repeal NAFTA and and impose tariffs, but in the end, nothing ever gets done. Whether they are good or bad for the majority of people in America, President Trump needs to act on different problems like he said he would. Even if it doesn’t sound like the greatest idea, still giving his idea a chance will be better than just leaving all of these issues that will be “fixed” the way they were before. People say that some of the reasons he spoke about repealing NAFTA and such was to just gain voted in usual democratic states. Well now if he does not act on what he said he would do he will cause a lot of turmoil and issues throughout our country to go along with all of the problems outside of our country.
Until Congress and President Trump decide that it is time to actually make changes to our issues, then only more and more problems will be formed. If they take things one issue at a time while avoiding from creating other issues, then there is actually a legitimate possibility that the United States could be on its way to being “great again”. It all starts with Congress realizing that it is time to step up and face these issues.

Terror In Europe Frontline

The program that I decided to write about is the Terror In Europe Frontline video. This program was about terrorists and terrorist groups that were going around different countries undetected plotting many different kinds of attacks on many different cities in Europe. Terrorists like Cherif and Kouachi would get out of jail and travel their way to Yemen to join Al Qaeda to plot attacks against European countries. Even though these attacks were focused on countries in Europe, this also had an effect on the United States and our government. Our intelligence agencies continued to keep an eye on these possible threats while other European countries had no way of watching what they do and keeping a close eye on them. Countries like France and Belgium were vulnerable to an attack due to these circumstances and that is exactly what happened. They were bombed, shot up, and many citizens died in these countries from terrorist attacks. These attacks ultimately led to not only Al Qaeda getting stronger, but also ISIS. This posed a threat to America as well because the USA were as much as a target for these terrorist organizations as well as these European countries. Many strong leaders in these countries tried to come together to make up a way to keep track of possible terrorist threats and to keep them from traveling out of the country. Containing them and not letting them leave would prevent them from going to these home countries for these organizations and will not be able to get information on any upcoming terrorist plans. In addition, they will be able to keep an eye on these terrorists to make sure they are not a threat to any country. They had to figure out a way to keep everyone safe from these terrorists and terrorist organizations.

My opinion on this Frontline program is that these European countries need to come together to create an effective way to stop these terrorist organizations from being a threat to themselves and their allies. Also, I believe that the United States needs to start to help these countries that are in danger because eventually the USA could be the country in the most trouble needing help from these European countries. If the US helps them with their security and protection issues now then we will absolutely get help if we were to need it in the future. These terrorists that go in and out of jail need to be closely monitored at all times after their release so that they no longer can be involved in any dangerous activity without being caught. This could also help us catch these terrorist group and their leaders to make our world safer every day. This Frontline program showed that the security and observation of these terrorists need to be improved which will help protect all of these European countries as well as every country all around the world.

The Secret Life of ISIS

The Frontline program that I chose was The Secret Life of ISIS. Throughout the article, it described how ISIS came to be, ways that could have prevented ISIS from ever becoming a huge threat to the world, and mistakes made by past presidents that led to their uprising. There was a point and time where the United States had an opportunity to take out the present leader of ISIS, Zarqawi. When the CIA brought up the idea to the president at the time George W Bush, he and the executives at the White House came to the conclusion that now would not be a good time to start a war that they are currently not ready to fight in. The CIA were not very happy to hear these news, and now today it looks like the CIA would have made the better decision. Once Zarqawi was brought up in United Nations meetings he felt empowered and eventually took action. He attacked weak areas in Iraq with suicide bombers and eventually received support to try and take out the American army that were in there in an attempt to take over all that area. Zarqawi wanted to rule the Islamic state with the word of God being the leader. However, America was able to kill Zarqawi, but not his message. He had already convinced others to continue what he wanted to create and this idea had been the overall creation of ISIS. Bagdadi was the successor to Zarqawi, who looked to rebuild, refresh, and eventually make ISIS a very strong organization led by God.

The production of this film was very important because people must know how ISIS was created and what they stand for. The more educated people become on certain topics like this the better we can prepare for similar occasions in the future. Evil around the world will never end; therefore, if we learn how these leaders gain control, strengthen these organizations, and grow to become terrorist organizations, we can all help stop these organizations from killing thousands of people around the world. I believe that these terrorist groups need to be contained by all means to keep every innocent person around the world safe. In countries like Iraq that do not have very strong governments, it is very easy for terror groups to take over these governments and to gain lots of their land. While they gain all of this power, they continue to gain lots of support. The more support that these groups gain will only continue to kill more people and to strike more fear to people all around the world. These groups feel like the way that they should lead these people come straight from God. However, they are very dangerous to their own people as well as other countries. If you are under the rule from one of these terror groups, you have to live under strict law, where you can be killed for just disagreeing to anything the leader believes that is right. People were stoned to death for being gay, beheaded for spreading the wrong message about their leaders, and so much more. ISIS was able to gain countries, weapons, tanks, and missiles, which is the reason why countries like the United States are always trying to take them out. These terror groups are bloodthirsty, unpredictable, and are always prepared to kill anyone and anything in their path. They base everything that they believe and stand for off of God. While they can have the right to believe in anything they want to believe in, the killing of many people that may not believe the same thing as you is a completely different story. Many recent occasions have happened where either a suicide bomber, a shooting, or anything else where people have died have ended up being connected to a terrorist organization. This is one of the leading causes of murders in the Middle East especially are these terrorist attacks. They become more and more common as the months go by, and everyone needs to come together to find an effective plan to end these attacks to stop thousands of people from losing their lives. The United States may have not been recently attacked by terrorist organizations, but they are always on terror groups lists to attack as soon as they possibly can. This video showed a lot of things about ISIS and what they do and that they have to be stopped in the future.

DACA Blog
Mike Moyers

Our President Donald Trump has made the decision to end the DACA program that let undocumented children that came to the USA through deportation stay here with no problems. Many people are furious about the bold move made by our president, but his intentions might not be all bad. The reason that he said he ended the DACA program was because it was against the Constitution for former President Obama to put it into law without it going through Congress first. Donald Trump now said that it is time for Congress to do their job and to take care of the DACA program whether they decide to save it or get rid of it completely. This is related to what we are learning in class right now because it is showing how our government has to make decisions with our laws. Also, it shows that the Constitution tells the government what powers they have so this is why President Trump believes that President Obama went against the Constitution. The branch of government that makes the laws is the Legislative Branch, which is Congress. The president is part of the Executive Branch, which interprets the laws, they do not make them. Therefore, it was wrong for Obama to put DACA into law without the agreement of Congress, even though it might have been in good intentions. We will now see within the next six months what Congress decides to do with the DACA program and what happens to the hundreds of thousands of undocumented children that were given their opportunities in life through the DACA program.
